Gothenburg
Spring 2020
At the beginning of the covid shutdown we were quite bored, so we had the idea of doing something fun. We thought about just doing a live session in some venue, but everyone was already doing that so instead we opted for something else. Maybe a tram? Would that work? Well, why die curious? No one to our knowledge had done this before, sure some live sessions with singing and a guitar had been done on public transport but not a full band before, and we wanted to do it live, not just a music video.
Thomas Andersson is a brilliant sound technician who we had worked with on a lot of projects before, so naturally we asked him what he thought of the idea and if it was possible to get good sound on a moving tram, not only recording but live mixing for the inears. His words were about “Ehm, on a moving tram? Absolutely not”. Fortunately he didn’t need too much convincing to be on board. He really did a phenomenal job, and not only did he nail the recording, he also did a great job with the final mastering.
Everything you see on screen is real, the tram was actually traveling through Gothenburg, we did film with 4 cameras and everything was live, however it was not edited live, both the soundmix (except for the inear) and camera production was edited afterwards. Everyone was playing live and if you take a close look, you can maybe spot some of our team members running around with the cameras. It was a really fun and challenging project.
Västtrafik – The public transport company in Gothenburg, did a similar concert on a moving tram about a year later. Officially, they say it was their own idea, but I think we all know who did it first 😉 And you know, good ideas are worth stealing!
This was a passion project without a client and a budget, we just wanted to do something fun together. So thank you to everyone involved! The full set is available for free on YouTube.
